ROYAL NATIONAL MOD 2018 – DUNOON

Last week our Town and our Community had the privilege of hosting the Royal National Mod Dunoon 2018. This will be the fifth National Mod held in Dunoon since 1994.

As with the last four Mods since 1994, the Local Organising Committee and our community, have demonstrated once again, that Dunoon is a friendly place, with great facilities, and an ideal place to host this wonderful and prestigious national event.

We have received a number of compliments and communications of appreciation, from our partners An Comunn Gaidhealach, from many visitors and the national media, with regard to the efficient organisation of the event and with the friendliness of the local community.

In our planning and preparation, the Local Organising Committee set out to make sure that all competitors and visitors enjoyed the Royal National Mod, while with us here in Dunoon. We are well pleased that we have achieved and confirmed our aim.

This response and the success of the event can be attributed to the strong multiplicity of partnerships formed, to support from Live Argyll staff, from Mitie School staff, from our three Churches, High Kirk, St Johns, and Baptist Church, to the 120 friendly community volunteers, and to the effective planning and the strict implementation of those plans.

Our Community Volunteers were unstinting, in their determination to do their utmost, to ensure that competitors and visitors to our Town, had a truly enjoyable week, and for this we are eternally grateful.

Stewarding, transportation and the driving of mini buses, catering ( home baking donations ) was carried out to the highest of standards and the support from Mitie, from Live Argyll staff, Argyll and Bute Council staff, the Coastguard, from Police/Fire Scotland authorities, Dunoon Argyll Pipe Band, as well as many others was significant.  All of this when taken together confirmed the importance of partnership working and was vital to the acknowledged success of the event.

Many local businesses also contributed as partners with financial sponsorship towards the costs of the town decorations, to our grand raffle, to the Final Dance and towards other important aspects and costs for the hosting of the event, and we sincerely thank them all for this.

On behalf of the Local Organising Committee, I wish to express our sincere appreciation and grateful thanks, not only for the support highlighted above, but also for the friendly, professional and generous way it was all provided to us.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL.

Yours sincerely

Dick Walsh
